De Haan heritage walking route
Tax included. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout.
The design layout for De Haan was based on the urban planning principles of Joseph Stübben. These are clearly visible to this day and still contribute to the unique charm of this seaside town: no high-rise buildings, winding streets, naturally sloping terrain, etc. De Haan owes its current appearance to some entrepreneurs who made an agreement with the Belgian state, the owner of the dunes, in 1889. They built the first villas and hotels there. At the end of the 19th century, De Haan had a casino, two hotels and around 30 villas for bathers from Bruges, Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent and Lille. The seawall, with no high-rise buildings, is unique on the Coast. The walking route starts at the well-known historic tram station and takes you through the picturesque 'Concession', past charming cottages and villas with a surprising modernist touch here and there.
This route has been carefully checked and screened for surface and possible obstacles such as narrow paths, slopes and ramps. Check the attached PDF for more information about the issues.
