Moereveld walking route

The Moereveld hiking trail takes you through the countryside west of Torhout. The colourful patchwork of meadows and fields intersected with small rivers makes for a pleasant and varied landscape. It’ll bring you along quiet country roads and countless farms. The trail starts at Domein d’Oude Smelterij. From here, a grassy pad leads you to the Koebeek Valley and the Spanjaardbeek (2 small streams). The particularly meandering course of these waterways makes for a winding trail with plenty of amazing views. As you make your way back, you’ll pass the former Moereveld, once upon a time an inhospitable heathland that subsequently served as a sand quarry for many years.
