Calm and serenity hangs over the fields. Nothing would suggest that the gently undulating landscape around the Wervik borough of Geluwe was once a rebel stronghold. We walk along quiet roads and enjoy the stunning vistas of the Leie River valley. At the end of the 18th century, the Brigands assembled here in the remote hamlet of Terhand, determined to oust the French occupier. The outcome was somewhat different though. This countryside trail brings you along majestic farmsteads and Moeremaaibos (forest), a remnant of the vast forests that covered these ridges in centuries past.
