Doeveren walking route

For many years, the area south of Bruges was one big heath land. The forests accompanied the arrival of the nobility, who set up their summer residences here. After all, trees brought in money. The Doeveren walking route starts at the scout and guide centre Merkenveld and follows meandering paths along the Pierlapont basin to the eponymous farm. The return route runs across the bridges in the Doeveren nature reserve where Galloway cattle graze freely in the mosaic of heath land and semi-open forests.
