Westende heritage walking route

Between the First and Second World Wars, Westende was the favoured holiday spot for those who liked to live in style. The fashionable watering place prospered and grew rapidly after the First World War, and even today has echoes of its former grandeur. Our walk starts next to Villa Les Zéphyrs, holiday home of the Muys family of Ghent doctors and notable for the Art Nouveau elements in its interior. From there, we follow the Zeedijk past the majestic Grand Hôtel Belle-Vue, admiring various art pieces in the Beaufort Sculpture Garden as we go. Arriving above the Warande Gates, we enjoy panoramic 360° views of the area and across the sea. Quiet footpaths bring us back to the centre of Westende.
