Meetkerkse Moeren walking route

Today, the bogs of the Meetkerkse Moeren lie below sea level, the consequence of centuries of turf being carved out for fuel in the towns. During this walk, we immerse ourselves in nature and get to know the area between the Ghent-Oostende canal and Meetkerke. We make our way through meadow wetlands and pastures, alongside ditches and streams, following rustic farm tracks through a unique corner of nature. Peace accompanies us along our way, interrupted at intervals by a bird or other fauna that crosses our path. The route back to Meetkerke takes us past the old windmills used in the past to keep the polders drained.
