Mira walking route

A bend in the landscape separates the colourful Scheldemeersen from the fields of Avelgemse – two different worlds, linked by the Mira trail. This varied trail is named after Mira, the main character in Stijn Streuvels’ novel ‘De Teloorgang van de Waterhoek’. We pass through the hamlet that gave its name to the book about the vanished ferry crossing over the Scheldt. The patchwork of farm tracks and footpaths traces our route through the peaceful countryside. As we pass through the Scheldemeersen , we are delighted by the flowers of the meadows, a magnet for bees.
