Oostendse Kreken walking route
Tax included. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout.
When the Sea Beggars of the sixteenth century breached the dykes, their intention was simply to shield themselves from the fast-approaching Spaniards by creating a defensive wall of water. They had not an inkling that their action would be the foundation of a new nature reserve. The historic creeks and polders to the south-east of Ostend create a delightful place for a walk. From the ‘Groene 62’ route, we enjoy glorious views of the creeks and the flocks of waterbirds they attract. The rustle of reeds is a constant throughout this walk. We make our way through the Tuinen van Stene – ‘stone gardens’ – back to the sports fields and children’s activity farm De Lange Schuur.
If you find this route too long, you can opt for a shorter loop of 10,8 km or 5,4 km.
