Ter Doest walking route

The flat polders around the white village of Lissewege are home to a range of meadow birds. The hike passes through squelchy meadows and follows meandering paths lined with reeds. Atop the impressive Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Bezoekingkerk church, you can enjoy fantastic views of the Port of Zeebrugge. Tucked behind a green shield lies the polder village of Zwankendamme, once a hamlet of Lissewege. The Boudewijn Canal was dug by spade and wheelbarrow and still connects the port with the city of Bruges. The Cistercian monks at Ter Doest Abbey made a significant contribution to reclaiming these polders. Their stockade is an eternal reminder of their presence here. t of Lissewege.
